The House debates the Energy Markets Emergency Act. The bill would take crucial steps to curb excessive speculation in the energy futures markets by directing the CFTC to use all its authority, including its emergency powers, immediately to curb the role of excessive speculation in any contract market trading energy futures or swaps and use its most potent emergency tools. Rep. Chris Van Hollen speaks in favor.

The Fed creates a bunch of inflation and it creates a stock market bubble, then a housing bubble, and then inflates commodity prices and congress blames speculators?
This just shows what a miserable failure congress is. They are looking for a scapegoat. Oil speculators reduce volatility, increase liquidity, and would replace the need for a national petroleum reserve. The problem is that there was no evidence they were holding oil off the market.

I doubt that it will take 30 years to get more gasoline produced domestically, unless the Dems remain in power… obstructive. Hydrogen or electric powered cars that are affordable by the masses are realistically 30 years away. 99% of vehicles that drive our economy now, burn gasoline or diesel. If our leaders had the foresight they should have, we would already be energy independent. No new refineries or nuclear plants in the past 30 years, with no developed alternatives is irresponsible.
