Chase was …
Chase was originally written as an American, than they revised his character to be British, then his Australlian actor said, “Hey! Since he’s already been so completely changed, how ’bout we make him an Aussie?” Only… not in those exact words, I’m sure.
In any case, I’m glad for it. I love the genuine accent, and Chase wouldn’t be as lovable as an American.

Precisely, hence my comparison. I wasn’t blindly making connections– I’m not House, you know.
I realize the intent of the skit, but I thought it was not as good as it could have been. I saw another MadTV skit spoofing House and Greys Anatomy and thought that was much better played. I think the script here was leaning on the weak side, but eventually pulled through. Not the best parody, but decent.

Comment made on November 22nd, 2009 at 10:44 pmHouse is based on Sherlock Holmes. This the appeal of this sketch is it’s accuracy to the show, only exaggerated.

Comment made on November 22nd, 2009 at 10:44 pmThe actress, Emilie de Ravin, who plays Claire is born and raised in Australia. I think her first American role was in the Roswell series.
I guess Chase was …
He does it well. When I first saw it, I didn’t even realize he wasn’t. (Somehow, I didn’t Hugh Laurie was THE Hugh Laurie. Yeah, way to go me.)
Comment made on November 22nd, 2009 at 10:44 pmI guess Chase was originally written as an American, and than he was changed into a British man. Since he’d undergone so many changes anyway, Jesse (the actor) convinced writers to make him Australian, since Aussies are so rarely portrayed on TV.
Hugh being an American…? Well… I don’t think I’ve seen a better fake American.
I always found it …
Comment made on November 22nd, 2009 at 10:44 pmI always found it rather weird that Laurie is playing an American (cuz he is British himself) whereas Chase doesn’t need to force on an English accent (I guess it’s because he couldn’t do it or something) :] I find that quite interesting.

Comment made on November 22nd, 2009 at 10:44 pmOh I thought it was the other way round, whoops. Hey, so if you can spot the Aussie in actors, is Claire from Lost really from down under?

Naw. I almost …
Naw. I almost didn’t make it through. Not the funniest skit, but oddly accurate. In a sense. Don’t get me wrong–I’m a House addict! But the show does get almost formulaic at times.
Then again, so did Sherlock Holmes novels, and they’re still masterpieces.

No, not really. He’s Australian, but the dictator (Dibala) noticed the slight British lilt in his accent. Chase informed him he’d spent a year in England attending seminary (which we knew from Season 1), and politcal debate ensued.
House calls Chase British, claiming, “You put the Queen on your currency. You’re British.” However, Chase (and his actor) is Australian born and raised. Yeah, that ain’t no fake Aussie accent!
